Everett Montague
(b. 1982, Durban, South Africa)
A contemporary artist residing and working in George in the Western Cape. Specializing in large-scale expressive abstract landscape paintings, Montague is best known for his dynamic, highly textured interpretations of the natural world. Drawing inspiration from the Outeniqua Mountains and expansive aerial perspective, his canvases favour capturing the atmospheric essence, shifting light, and emotional response to his experience as an aerial firefighter.
His dedication to the artistic process is highly physical and extends well beyond the painted surface; as a skilled woodworker, he meticulously hand-fabricates his own custom canvases and professional floating frames using premium, tactile materials such as Blackwood, French Oak, and Ash.
Montague also expands his visual narrative into multimedia formats, chronicling the intersection of his professional life and creative practice in his cinematic docuseries, Between the Canvas and the Cockpit.
A self-taught artist, Montague has established a robust and continuous exhibition history across prominent regional venues. His recent museum and gallery group exhibitions include Summer Illume (2026) at the George Museum, alongside an extensive series of seasonal showcases at Sayers Auditorium and the Attic Atelier. In addition to his active gallery schedule, his large-scale paintings are continually represented through ongoing showcases at the Design+ and We – C – U showrooms.
